Sony Launches DVDdirect VRD-MC1 DVD Recorder
Sony has launched a new DVD recorder, VRD-MC1, in India which can transfer home video footage in real-time from a camcorder to a DVD media without requiring a PC.
The new DVD recorder also allows recording of digital still images directly from memory cards to DVD media as a slideshow for playback on most home DVD players and PC DVD-ROM drives, without requiring a PC.
Sony VRD-MC1 DVD recorder also enables direct connection to PictBridge-compatible photo printers for direct printing individual digital pictures from a memory card or from a DVD disc.
Samsung Lauches SH-S182D 18x DVD Writer
Samsung today announced the launch of new WriteMaster SH-S182D DVD drive which can write to DVD+/-R media at a blazing 18X speed. Previous fastest DVD writers available were able to write up to 16X speeds.
The Samsung SH-S182D DVD writer can write to DVD+/-R with 18X, DVD-RAM with 12X, DVD+/-R Double Layer with 8X, DVD+RW with 8X and DVD-RW with 6X making it the world’s fastest DVD+/-R and DVD-RAM writer in the current market.
The SH-S182D can also write to Dual Layer and DVD-RAM media, largely promoted by Panasonic which pioneer the technology. Since it was not globally accepted standard, few home DVD players support DVD-RAM media outside of the Panasonic product ranges.

Seagate Unveils 10 New Data Storage Products In India
Seagate Technology has today launched 10 new hard drives and data storage solutions for the entertainment, consumer electronics and computing segments. According to company, all the new products have been designed to support the growing demand for digital content in a on-demand world.
According to Seagate, many of these new data storage products leverage Seagate’s perpendicular recording technology, include 1.8-inch, 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch hard drives with up to 750GB of capacity for consumer electronics, notebook and desktop PC and enterprise applications.
The company also introduced a 2.5-inch notebook drive that combines rotating disc and flash memory, and added Macintosh support to its next generation Mirra personal server.

Toshiba Launches MK2035GSS 2.5-Inch 200-GB HDD
Toshiba Storage Device Division has announced a new 2.5-inch 200GB HDD, MK2035GSS, based on Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR) technology using only two hard-disk platters. Toshiba plans to start mass production of the drive in August 2006.
Toshiba’s second-generation PMR offering features the worlds highest areal density at 178.8 gigabits per square inch (277.1 Mb per square mm) and the highest-capacity drive on the market in the standard 9.5mm mobile PC format.
The new Toshiba 2.5-inch MK2035GSS HDD also boosts of data capacity that is 1.67 times more than Toshiba’s highest capacity conventional 2.5-inch drive.
HP Launches StorageWorks Ultrium 960 Data Backup Tape Drive Systems

Hitachi Launches 160HB Travelstar 5K160 2.5-inch Mobile Hard Drives
Hitachi has announced a new mobile hard drives based on perpendicular recording technolog. Company has today announced its new 2.5″, 5400RPM Travelstar 5K160 series hard drives.
The drive uses perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) tech and is aimed at the notebook market, but it will be used in next generation 1.8-inch drives, ready in the second half of this year.
The new Travelstar drives will be available in capacities of 40GB, 60GB, 80GB, 120GB and 160GB. The drives feature a 11ms seek time, 8MB of cache and are available with either an IDE or SATA interface.
