Micromax Announces Win W121 and Win W092 Windows 8.1 Based Smartphones

Micromax has just announced its first smartphone offerings based on latest Windows Phone operating system 8.1. The Canvas Win W121 and Canvas Win W092, both the smartphones run on the latest Windows 8.1 OS and are priced Rs. 9500 and Rs. 6500 respectively.

These smartphones devices will be available for purchase from next month and are targeted at the mid-price range segment. Unfortunately, unlike most of Nokia’s Windows smartphone offerings, these smartphones do not come with free SkyDrive storage.

Joe Belfiore, VP of Windows Phone at Microsoft had early this year declared that the Microsoft went into an agreement with Indian mobile phone manufacturer Micromax as a hardware partner for its mobile phone OS.

According to Sanjay Kapoor, chairman, Micromax,company is the only Indian mobile phone brand that is present across the two most popular operating platforms in the world.

Micromax Canvas Win W121

The Micromax Win W121 has 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM. The device has 8 GB internal memory which is expandable upto 32GB with a microSD card.

The W121 smartphone has a 5 inch IPS HD touchscreen display having 1280×720 pixels resolution and runs on the Windows Phone 8.1 operating system.

Micromax Win W121 also have an 8 megapixel rear camera with LED Flash that can also record HD videos and includes a 2MP front facing camera for video calling. Other features of the smartphone includes Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3G, & a microUSB port and a microSD card slo for connectivity.

The company also provides 2000mAh battery with the device, comes with GPS support and dual-SIM capability.

The Canvas Win W092 smartphone has a smaller 4 inch IPS WVGA touchscreen display having 800×480 pixels resolution and runs on the Windows Phone 8.1. The W092 has 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM. The device has 8GB internal memory which is expandable upto 32GB with a microSD card.

Micromax Win W092 has a 5 MP rear camera with LED Flash that can also record videos and front facing VGA camera for video calling. The device has Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3G, & a microUSB port and a microSD card slot for connectivity. The company also provides 1,500 mAh battery with the device, which comes with GPS support.

Both these smartphones will chiefly compete with the likes of Nokia Lumia which is priced at Rs 7,499, Nokia Lumia 525 priced at Rs 8,577 and Nokia Lumia 630 priced at 10,100 – all run on the Windows Phone OS.
