Amkette has just-launched its first Android powered Media Centre box the EvoTv, which is a small standalone media device that connects to an existing TV set to deliver smart TV functionality that allows users access to Internet, social networking, apps, gaming and digital multimedia playback and more ans is priced for about 9,995/-.
Just like Apple TV or Google TV standalone media boxes, the Amkette EvoTV Smart Box allows users to access Internet for content like videos, games and websites using a third party WiFi based internet/broadband connection.
The Amkette’s EvoTV runs on Android gingerbread 2.3 system and is powered by a 1-GHz ARM Cortex A9 single core processor with unspecified amount of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. The device’s graphics is powered by Mali 400 dual-core GPU and supports full 1080p HD video playback transforming the home TV to a full fledged ‘Smart TV’.
The device also features memory card slot supporting SD and MMC cards, 7.1 channel audio output , WiFi 802.11b/g/n wireless connectivity with DLNA functionality, Ethernet LAN port for wired broadband connectivity, 3G functionality via USB, and HDMI digital out port allowing users connect the device to their home TV.
The EvoTV has four full-size USB 2.0 ports allowing users connect external keyboard, or plug-in USB based webcam, mass storage devices and any other device that runs of standard USB interface.
The device comes with a terrific looking remote control which offers motion sensing Nintendo Wii kind of functionality via its built-in accelerometer sensor, built-in six-axis gyroscope sensor, touch sensors and built-in microphone and speakers allowing users to play motion sensing games and interactive draw etc.
In addition, the EvoTV comes pre-loaded with ‘Evo Discover’ application which is an internet content discovery tool allowing users discover compatible contents based on their liking.
“With EvoTV, we plan to revolutionalise the future of television globally. The Internet experience should not be limited to just PCs. Using this, users will be able to access games and content like videos, just like they would on a PC. This year, we expect EvoTV to contribute about 50 per cent of our revenues,” said Amkette Chief Executive Officer Rajiv K Bapna.
The Amkette EvoTV allows full access to Google Play Store (Formerly Android Market) allowing users access over 450,000 free and paid apps and other media contents and it features a motion sensing remote control, similar to the LG Magic wand, which allows users control the smart TV functionality and allows interaction with apps.
According to company, the device has been conceptualised, researched and designed in India and took 14 months from concept to finished product. So in a way, this device is claimed to be made-in-india product.
While a Sony or LG Smart TV system are priced in excess of Rs 60,000, the Amkette EvoTV Smart Box would be available in Delhi by June end for Rs. 9,995/-. The device would go on sale for rest of India by end of August’12.
