Reliance communications has becoming the first 3G telecom operator to venture in Indian tablet market with launch of its first ever own branded Android powered Tablet device that is 3G ready and is been offered with heavily discounted 3G data plans as introductory offers.
Reliance 3G Tablet runs on Google Android 2.3 Gingerbread version that is not optimized for large screen size tablet devices and is priced at jaw-dropping Rs. 12,999 that is about 40% lower than similar screen size tablet device on the market. Company has not revealed if the device would be upgradable to Android 3.x Honeycomb operating system which is designed and optimized for tablet devices.
Reliance 3G Tablet is believed to be sold under Reliance brand which is custom manufactured by ZTE China for Reliance Communications, and the device is being rolled out in Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata with exclusive bundled data service plans and discounts of up to 50 percent.
The Reliance tablet features 7-inch Capacitive touchscreen display with 800 x 480 pixel resolution and is powered by 1GHz processor. It also includes 512-MB or RAM and is equipped with microSD card slot supporting up to 16GB of expandable memory.
The Reliance 3G Tablet also has 2MP rear facing main camera and a VGA resolution front facing camera for video calling and offers voice and video calling over 3G network.
Other features of this tablet device includes Wi-Fi 802.11b/g wireless connectivity, bluetooth, accelerometer sensor, built-in GPS receiver, and features three touch sensitive buttons for menu, cancell and home functions in Android.
Only 389 gms in weight, the Reliance 3G tablet offers complete functionality of a typical Android powered device that includes MS documents on move allowing you view and work with microsoft excel, word, powerpoint and PDF attachments, preinstalled Google apps, and Google Android Market access allowing over 175,000 free and paid Android apps.
“Reliance Communications has always been a pioneer in taking bold steps to innovate and re-invent the telecom ecosystem in the country. The launch of Reliance 3G Tab is in line with this principle,” said Mahesh Prasad, president, Reliance Communications.
“We believe the unmet demand of a fully loaded tablet at an aggressive price point will now fuel the aspirations of the evolved customers,” he added.
Price: The Reliance 3G Tablet will be initially be available in Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata for Rs. 12,999 at respective Reliance World and Reliance Mobile stores which would soon expand to cover all the 333 towns in thirteen circles offering 3G service in India.
As introductory offer, Reliance is offering a free 4GB microSD memory card and 50% discount on exclusive 3G prepaid data plan from RCOM that includes, 1GB data a month for 12 months at Rs. 4500, 2GB data a month for 12 months at Rs. 5500 and 3GB data per month for 12 months at Rs. 7000 per year based on pre-payment for 1 Year.
