HP Launches TouchPad Tablet Powered by WebOS; Features 9.7-inch Touchscreen Display

HP has today announced its first tablet, the HP TouchPad Tablet that is powered by HP’s webOS operating system and features a vibrant 9.7-inch diagonal flush capacitive multitouch display, 3G and WiFi connectivity.

The HP TouchPad tablet allows instant-on access, support for Adobe Flash Player 10.1 beta in the browser and access to thousands of webOS applications.

Designed to be used alone or as a digital companion to HP’s webOS phone, the HP TouchPad tablet allows connecting devices through the elegant webOS experience allowing users access SMS message on their tablet device and features HP’s exclusive new touch-to-share feature that allows users simply touch an enabled webOS phone to their TouchPad to share web URLs.

The Tablet also includes HP Synergy feature, allowing users simply sign in to their Facebook, Google, Microsoft Exchange, LinkedIn and Yahoo! accounts and populate their HP TouchPad tablet device with contacts, calendar and email automatically.

The HP webOS operating system is a true multitasking environment allowing users simultaneously runs multiple applications and it displays the running applications in the form of scrollable cards instead of a sea of application icons on numerous home screens.

When user launches a new activities, webOS will automatically group related cards. For example, an email and an associated web page gets together in a card stack, allowing users easily track all related items together.

HP TouchPad tablet also features a webOS communication suite powered by HP Synergy that including email, instant messaging, contacts, calendar, videos and a front-facing camera for video calling.

The HP TouchPad tablet features a 9.7-inch diagonal XGA capacitive, multitouch screen display with 18-bit color, supporting 1,024 x 768 resolution and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-CPU APQ8060 1.2-GHz processor.

The Tablet comes with 16GB or 32GB internal storage and for data connectivity it offers WiFi 802.11b/g/N, Bluetooth wireless technology 2.1 + EDR with A2DP stereo Bluetooth support, 3G, GPS with A-GPS support and microUSB port for wired connectivity with battery charging.

The HP TouchPad tablet also includes 3.5mm audio out port and also features light sensor, accelerometer, compass (magnetometer), gyroscope, and a single front-facing 1.3 megapixel camera for video calling over 3G network. It also comes with VPN support to connect to corporate networks.

The HP TouchPad tablet includes built-in HP Touchstone technology that offers easy charging and HP touch-to-share technology that allows sharing web addresses between TouchPad and compatible webOS phones.

The tablet also offers dedicated Email solutions including EAS (for access to corporate Microsoft Exchange servers) and personal email support (Google Gmail push, Yahoo!, POP3, IMAP)

Amazon.com has already announced that it will launch a free Kindle app for HP webOS tailored for TouchPad that will give you access to more than 810,000 titles from Amazon’s Kindle Store.

TouchPad’s virtual full QWERTY keyboard includes a number row, which reduces keyboard switching, making typing easy and fast and sports a unique features that on powers on instantly brings users back to exactly where they left off.

It’s also compatible with HP’s industry-leading printing solutions, so you can wirelessly print documents, photos and emails to compatible wireless and networked HP printers.

Measuring 190 mm x 242 mm x 13.7 mm (7.48 inches x 9.53 inches x .54 inches) the HP TouchPad weighs 740 gms and comes with 6300 mAh rechargeable battery.
