LG Launches LG Optimus Black P970 Android Smartphone

LG has today announced the launch of its brand new LG Optimus Black P970 Smartphone that is powered by Android 2.2 FroYo operating system and claimed to be the world’s slimmest 9.2 mm mobile device, even slimmer than superstar Samsung Galaxy S Android smartphone which is 9.9 mm thick.


LG Optimus Black P970 smartphone quad-band GSM 850/900/1800/1900 and 3G HSDPA network ready mobile phone and it features 4.0 inch 780 x 800 pixel capacitive touchscreen powered by NOVA technology.

The new NOVA display is available for the first time in the mobile phones, and is designed to be the brightest, clearest and most readable among mobile screens with 700 nits of brightness for optimal visibility.

With higher levels of brightness and pure white tones, NOVA display deliver true black and white colors for ideal handset viewing and NOVA technology featured on LG Optimus Black also enables users to maintain visibility whether indoors or outdoors under strong sunlight.

In addition the NOVA display on LG Optimus Black P970 smartphone also radically reduces power consumption by 50% during general indoor use compared to a conventional LCD.

LG claims that a compatible AMOLED screen equipped smartphones might consumes twice as much power as NOVA to display a full white screen.

LG Optimus Black P970 weighs only 109g and offers sleek lines and smooth edges that improve handheld grip and its subtle back arch helps to create the illusion of even greater slimness than actual 9.2mm.

The LG Optimus Black smartphone also includes Accelerometer for auto screen rotatiom and proximity sensor for auto display off while on call. The smartphone allows expandable memory of up to 32GB via microSD card slot.

The LG Optimus Black smartphone is powered by Android 2.2 Froyo with LG Optimus UI 2.0 that lets users directly access messages, emails and missed calls from the locked screen with just one single finger tap.

The smartphone’s UI also offers Gesture function that allows more intuitive commands, including lifting, shaking and tapping, for taking calls, entering camera mode, or enjoying music.

For data connectivity, the smartphone offers GPRS, EDGE, 3G HSDPA, WiFi 802.11b/g/N wireless LAN, Bluetooth 2.1 + A2DP and microUSB port connection for wired connectivity.

LG Optimus Black also introduces the world’s first Wi-Fi Direct for quick and high-quality data transfer between mobile devices and features the world’s first 2MP front-facing camera for video calling in addition to main primary camera whose details are not yet available.

In addition to the comprehensive entertainment features, the LG Optimus Black smartphone delivers advanced phone features including GPS functionality with access to turn-by-turn navigation, and Android full HTML browser.

All LG Optimus Black features are available on the Android 2.2 Froyo platform with Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade capability. Utilizing the 2MP front-facing camera, LG Optimus Black allows users to utilize video telephony functions of higher quality after upgrading to Android’s Gingerbread.

Some other features of LG Optimus Black Smartphone includes 3.5 mm audio out port, internal speaker, FM Radio with RDS, support of Java MIDP 2.0, Audio media player supporting MP3/WAV/WMA/eAAC+ files and video media player supporting DivX/Xvid/MP4/H.264/H.263/WMV files. It also offers Facebook and Twitter website integration and includes YouTube application with Flash support.

LG Optimus S smartphone allows access to Android Market, allowing users to download and personalize their phone with thousands of free and paid applications.

Combined with the 1500 mAh battery of the LG Optimus Black, users will have enough power for their daily needs, even at maximum brightness settings.


The LG Optimus Black will be rolled out globally in the first half of 2011. There are no details about its prices in various markets.
