Micromax ANDRO A60 Smartphone Launched in India; Runs Android 2.1 OS

Micromax today announced the launch of its first ever Android platform powered Micromax ANDRO A60 Smartphone in India that is India’s cheapest Android smartphone and features 2.8-inch full touchscreen, 600MHz processor and runs Android 2.1 Eclair operating system for mobile devices.

Micromax ANDRO A60 seems to clearly challenge already well established Android powered Samsung Galaxy 5 smartphone which is rated as best entry-level under Rs. 10,000 Android powered smartphone on the market today. Priced for Rs. 7,000 makes it even cheaper than Galaxy 5 phone (Rs. 9,000).

Rumored to be a dual-SIM capable handset, would make it perhaps first Dual-SIM capable Android phone on market we have seen so far, and it betters Galaxy 5 on its 3.2 megapixel camera against 2MP in Galaxy 5 phone and support for up to 32GB microSDHC memory card against maximum 16GB in Galaxy 5 phone.

It seems, Micromax Andro A60 is a re-branded version of Chinese brand ‘ZTE Penguin N720′, model which was released in Japan market few months back.

The Micromax ANDRO A60 smartphone has 256MB of RAM + 256MB ROM 150MB internal memory and includes support for microSD slot with upto 8-GB 32GB maximum storage capacity via microSDHC memory card allowing 1000 entries phonebook which also supports caller picture and caller ring tone.

The Android powered phone is also equipped with Accelerometer sensor for auto screen rotate in addition to Gravity Sensor and built-in GPS with A-GPS support with Google Maps navigation.

Micromax ANDRO A60 offers a 3.2 Megapixel fixed-focus camera (Galaxy 5 has 2MP) with 2048 x 1536 pixels still picture max resolution, 1X Digital Zoom and video recording capability in VGA resolution in 640×480 pixels @18 fps. There is no secondary VGA resolution camera for 3G video calling.

Dual-band GSM 900/1800 MHz and dual-band WCDMA 900/2100 MHz ready Micromax ANDRO A60 offers exhaustive data connectivity options such as GPRS class 12, EDGE class 12, Bluetooth 2.0 + A2DP wireless connection, WiFi 802.11b/g Wireless LAN, dual band 3G HSDPA 7.6Mbps download speed connectivity, 3G HSUPA 5.76Mbps download speed, in addition to microUSB v2.0 port for wired connectivity and charging.

Equipped with multi format media player that supports MP3, AMR, MIDI, and WAV audio formats, the ANDRO A60 smartphone is equipped with 3.5mm audio port and it also allows background music playback while users work on other functions of the phone and offers Flight Mode that allows users to access its music, camera and other functions without having to switch on the phone function or network connectivity. It also supports video playback in WMV/WMA/Mp4/H.263/AVI formats and includes FM radio with RDS and FM recording capability.

Measuing 106.8mm x 59.2mm x 14.0mm and weighing just 105 gms, the Micromax ANDRO A60 smartphone also offers users close integration with popular Google services, such as Google Search (not with voice – only in v2.1 FroYo), Gmail, Google Talk and Google Maps.

The ANDRO A60 smartphone also features Google maps, which allows free walk and drive navigation and other locating options. In addition, there are more than 50,000 applications to choose from Android Market and users have access to Google mobile services such as Google Search, Gmail and Google Maps.

The smartphone also includes popular Android based apps including Google search, Google Gmail, YouTube, Calendar, and Google talk. There is inbuild support for MS document editors including Word, Excel and Powerpoint in addition to PDF.
