Dell STREAK Android Powered Tablet / Smartphone Launched in India For Rs. 34,990

Dell and Tata DOCOMO today announced the launch of its eagerly awaited Dell STREAK Tablet / Smartphone in India market which is now available to all Tata DOCOMO post-paid customers with 500MB Free data connection usage for the first six months.


The Dell STREAK Tablet which combines the features of a smartphone and a high-power Tablet like Apple iPad, or Samsung Galaxy Tab Tablet, featuring 5-inch WVGA (800×480 pixels) full touchscreen display and is powered by much older and little outdated Android v1.6 operating system for mobile devices with Dell’s user interface enhancements. The Tablet is designed for accessing entertainment, navigating busy schedule and connecting to the friends and family.

Originally known as Dell Mini 5, the Dell Streak is pitched in direct competition to Apple iPad, Norton’s Adam, Asus’s forthcoming Eee Pad and Eee Tabley and a dozen others tablet PCs slated to flood the markets during this year.

The Dell Streak Tablet device offers a ton of flexibility while looking cool in the process. The Dell Streak brings together a great web browsing experience, multi-tasking capability, slick turn by turn navigation and a great way to enjoy your photos, movies and music into a sleek device that’s built for mobility.

Dell Streak is powered by a 1 GHz Snapdragon ARM-based Qualcomm QSD8250 Processor with 512MB internal RAM plus 512MB ROM running latest version of Google Android v1.6 which is expected to get upgraded to Android 2.2 (FroYo) with support for Adobe Flash 10.1, hopefully by end of the year 2010. The UK market has already received Android v2.1 upgrade on Dell Streak device only recently.

In addition, the Dell Streak Tablet features a large 5-inch multi-touch WVGA 800 x 480 pixels color display made with Gorilla-Glass technology making it a pretty big durability as against more fragile mobile devices and comes with 2-GB of internal memory and offers microSD memory card supporting maximum 32-GB expandable memory.

The Dell Streak Tablet also features proximity sensor to auto disable touchsreen when being used as phone and includes ambient light-sensor which helps save battery life by automatically adjusting the screen brightness for varying lighting conditions.

Only 10 mm thick, the Dell Streak Tablet also features UMTS/GPRS/EDGE Class 12 network connection, integrated Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g wireless networking capability, 3G HSDPA 7.2 Mbps speed connection, Bluetooth 2.1 and microUSB port connecivity and also offer all kinds of Dell Streak accessories like a car dock kit, battery replacements, a home AV dock and more.

The Bluetooth v2.1 wireless connection in Dell Streak Tablet allows connection to all sorts of bluetooth enabled devices/accessories like headsets, external keyboards, stereo headsets, etc.

The phone also include powerful 5.0 Megapixel auto-focus digital camera with built-in LED flash and digital zoom that offers easy point & shoot capability and quick uploads to YouTube, Flickr and Facebook accounts and more.

The Dell Streak Tablet device also features a secondary VGA front-facing camera that enables video chat functionality down the road over 3G network.

The phone includes user-removable (and replaceable) rechargeable battery and is equipped with a 3.5mm headphone jack for choice of headphone connection.

The Dell Streak tablet-cum-smartphone also offers access to over 38,000  apps via the Android Marketplace. Moreover, the device comes loaded with Google Maps with voice-activated search, turn-by-turn navigation, street and satellite views.

It also offers Quick access to activity streams via integrated social network app widgets like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and many other social networking sites.
