Sony has today announced the launch two Digital SLR Single Lens Translucent mirror camera, Sony SLT-A55V and SLT-A33 Digital-SLR Cameras which are first-ever digital cameras to employ Translucent Mirror Technology and allows full 1080p HD movie recording.
Light, compact Sony SLT-A55V and SLT-A33 Digital SLR cameras are first-ever digital cameras to employ Translucent Mirror Technology showcase an innovative optical system that opens up dramatic new shooting possibilities.
Sony SLT-A55V Digital SLR Cameras offers 16.2 megapixel resolution featuring APS-C Exmor” HD CMOS with 16.7 million total pixels with 4912 x 3264 pixel maximum still picture resolution while Sony SLT-A33 camera offers 14.2 megapixel resolution featuring APS-C “Exmor” HD CMOS with 16.7 million total pixels allowing maximum 4592 x 3056 pixel maximum still picture resolution.
In contrast with conventional DSLR cameras, Sony’s Translucent Mirror Technology utilizes a fixed, translucent mirror that ‘splits’ the optical pathway between the main image sensor and a separate phase-detection autofocus sensor.
As a result, high-resolution live image preview with rapid, accurate phase detection autofocus is thus available at all times – either via the angle-adjustable 7.5cm (3-inch) TFT (Xtra Fine LCD) with 921k dot resolution or precision Tru-Finder (electronic viewfinder).
This also ensures that even moving objects stay in sharp focus at all times, whether users is shooting Full HD video or stills using Sony SLT-A55V and SLT-A33 Digital SLR cameras.
Sony SLT-A55V and SLT-A33 Digital SLR cameras are the very few DSLRs with 1080/60i Full HD, exactly the same resolution and frame rate as most broadcast and cable HDTV channels. Records in 1080/60i AVCHD™ format, 1080/30p high definition in PC-friendly MP4 format and standard definition 480/30p in MP4 format.
Translucent Mirror Technology overcomes other traditional limitations of DSLR models, with its simplified mechanical design shrinking camera size and complexity.
This makes the Sony SLT-A55V and SLT-A33 Digital SLR cameras a compelling choice for casual photographers who want to capture spontaneous family moments and travel scenes with less to carry.
The Sony A33 Digital-SLR camera features professional-grade continuous shooting at 7 fps and visibly faster, more accurate focus in Live View and HD Movie modes. Compose your shots on either the LCD monitor or electronic viewfinder with 100% framing accuracy. Advanced features including Auto HDR, Sweep Panorama and 15-point Auto Focus make it dramatically easier to get the best shot.
Full-resolution shooting at up to 10fps with precise AF tracking
The Sony SLT-A55V and SLT-A33 Digital SLR cameras features ground-breaking Translucent Mirror Technology that allows high-speed shooting with the SLT-A55V camera at up to 10fps and with SLT-A33 camera at up to 7fps, in Continuous Priority AE mode.
This represents the world’s fastest burst continuous AF shooting performance of any interchangeable lens camera with an APS-C size sensor.
The Sony SLT-A55V and SLT-A33 Digital SLR cameras also features a newly developed 15-point phase-detection autofocus system that assures rapid, accurate AF tracking, keeping even moving subjects in sharp focus during continuous shooting. This enables the Sony SLT-A55V and SLT-A33 Digital SLR cameras to capture split-second action or fleeting nuances of expression with portrait subjects.
World’s first Quick AF Full HD movie shooting
The Sony SLT-A55V and SLT-A33 Digital SLR cameras are equipped with large sensor size Exmor APS HD CMOS Sensor that lets photographers capture stunning, cinematic HD video footage with beautiful background defocus (bokeh) effects.
The Sony SLT-A55V and SLT-A33 Digital SLR Cameras also introduces for first time Quick AF Full HD movie shooting function. Translucent Mirror Technology enables AVCHD 1080i video shooting with smooth, precise phase detection AF tracking of moving subjects.
Real-time video image preview is now possible via the viewfinder – in contrast with DSLR cameras where the raised mirror prevents light from reaching the optical viewfinder during video shooting.
Effortless composition and image viewing
The Sony SLT-A55V and SLT-A33 Digital SLR Cameras enable exciting new possibilities for framing and viewing highest-quality video and still images. Already prized by step-up DSLR users and enthusiasts alike, Sony’s Quick AF Live View system is now more effective than ever. High-resolution live image preview is teamed with uncompromised phase detection AF performance – even with rapidly-moving subjects.
Sony SLT-A55V and SLT-A33 Digital SLR Cameras allows tilting and swivelling freely (to maximum 270 degrees) for comfortable framing at any shooting angle, the bright 7.5 cm (3.0-inch) (16:9) Xtra Fine LCD offers superb detail and contrast.
The Sony SLT-A55V and SLT-A33 Digital SLR Cameras also features a precision electronic viewfinder with 1.15 million dot resolution that delivers a clear, bright image with 100% frame coverage.
3D Sweep Panorama and enriched creative possibilities
The Sony SLT-A55V and SLT-A33 Digital SLR Cameras are compatible with the full range of over 30 A-mount interchangeable lenses and offer SteadyShot INSIDE. This in-body image stabilisation system provides up to 4 exposure steps of anti-shake correction when shooting handheld.
Both Sony SLT-A55V and SLT-A33 Digital SLR Cameras also feature 3D Sweep Panorama, allowing photographers to capture detail-packed extra-wide panoramas with a huge field of view and the 3D panoramas can also be enjoyed on any compatible 3D HD home television.
The Sony SLT-A55 camera is also the first ? camera by Sony with integrated GPS, allowing automatic geo-tagging of images and video clips.
Both the Sony SLT-A55V and SLT-A33 Digital SLR Cameras accept both Memory Stick PRO Duo (including Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo) and SD (including both SDHC and SDXC formats) media (all sold separately).
Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo HX 30MB per second transfer rate offers the best performance during cameras’ continuous shooting mode or when transferring the data to another media.
Anti-Dust Technology in both these cameras helps keep the CMOS sensor clean, resulting in consistently clear pictures. First a static-free coating on the sensor’s low-pass filter helps repel dust. Then vibration automatically dislodges dust from the sensor.
“This is the most innovative Interchangeable Lens Digital Camera that Sony has ever created,” said Kristen Elder, director of the digital imaging business group. “Our Translucent Mirror Technology is one of the most significant SLR structural changes in more than a decade.”
