Canon today announces the launch of the Canon EF 2x III Lens Entender, designed to work in conjunction with Canon L-series IS super-telephoto lenses, extending their focal length by a factor of 2x and ensuring there is no loss of lens performance or image quality.
The Canon EF 2x III Extenders is direct replacements of the current extenders offered by Canon as essential accessories for professionals and this new extender has been designed to provide faster autofocusing and improved autofocus precision with compatible EF lenses.
Designed for photojournalists, nature and sports photographers who need to get close to distant and challenging subjects, the Canon Extender EF 2x III increase the focal length of a lens by a factor of 2x while still delivering superb image quality.
To ensure the best possible image quality in all shooting conditions, Canon Extender EF 2 III also combine enhanced environmental protection, redesigned optics and improved data communication between lens and camera.
The Canon Extender EF 2x III includes an anomalous dispersion lens element for reduced chromatic aberration and enhanced optical image quality and the extender also features a newly developed microcomputer that increases AF precision when the extenders are used with a IS Series II EF super-telephoto lens.
The Canon Extender EF 2x III is equipped with rubber gaskets and seals to enhance weather resistance. A new fluorine anti-smear coating is applied to the front and rear elements of Canon EF 2x III extenders.
Allowing professional photographers to shoot distant subjects without having to carry a number of heavy lenses with them, the new Canon Extender EF 2x III ensure there is no compromise on image quality.
The Canon Extender EF 2x III features nine lens elements in five groups, ensuring improved optical performance. All optical elements use Canon’s Super Spectra coating, reducing ghosting and flare to minimise post-processing requirements.
A new Fluorine Coating on the front and rear elements makes marks, such as spots left by water or fingerprints, much easier to clean than standard coatings.
The Canon Extender EF 2x III models feature an integrated processor which ensures all focusing, metering and ID information is available, allowing the photographer to capture crisp, well-exposed images and facilitate the accurate transfer of imaging data between the lens and camera body.
When combined with the latest range of premium Canon L-series lenses, the Canon EF 2x III extender unit enable higher AF accuracy compared to previous generations, ensuring professionals achieve perfectly sharp shots, even when capturing moving subjects.
The Canon Extender EF 2x III has been designed to complement the latest range of L-series lenses, matching their appearance and offering a visible differentiation from previous models and a carefully positioned lens release mechanism also makes it easy to mount the extenders quickly, reducing the time that the camera and lens are exposed to the environment.
The Canon EF 2x III extender also offer the exceptional build-quality expected from Canon’s professional products, and are resistant to both dust and water, allowing photographers to use them in extreme shooting conditions.
“Canon’s core has always been our optics, and we are constantly challenging ourselves to produce better and more advanced optical systems for our customers. These six new products advance the state of the art in Canon lens technology and provide new and innovative tools for professionals and advanced amateur photographers,” stated Yuichi Ishizuka, executive vice president and general manager, Consumer Imaging Group, Canon U.S.A.
