Nokia C5 Budget-Priced Smartphone Launched in India

Nokia today announced its new C-Series budget-priced Nokia C5 Smartphone in India which boasts of latest Symbian OS v9.3 Series 60 rel. 3.2 operating system and offers incredible 12 hours of talktime and host of messaging and social networking features in addition to built-in GPS and Wave Secure security application.


Announced in early Mar 2010, the new Nokia C5 smartphone introduces Nokis’s new phone naming scheme in C-Series and boast of cool new features in its phone book, allowing users to see their friends status updates directly from Facebook. In addition, users can also update their Facebook status easily and share your location with Ovi Maps 3.0.

The home screen displays upto three favourite friends for easy access to calling and messaging in addition to Nokia Messaging that allows users to keep in touch on built-in IM using Google Talk or Windows Live Messenger. Also includes is free walk and drive navigation application with Ovi Maps.

The quad-band GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz, dual-band 3G HSDPA 900/2100 and EDGE network along with HSCSD (High-Speed Circuit-Switched Data) network ready Nokia C5 smartphone has 240 x 320 pixels, 2.2 inches, 16 Million colours TFT display. The display is capable of handwriting recognition.

The Nokia C5 Smartphone is equipped with 600 MHz Dual ARM 11 Processor and it features Symbian OS v9.3, Series 60 rel. 3.2 mobile operating system and is being boasted to be most powerful multi-sensory mobile computer. Unlike Nokia N6 Smartphone, the Nokia C5 does not features Accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate and Proximity sensor for auto turn off.

Designed for Internet savvy users, the Nokia C5 smartphone comes with a massive 50-MB internal memory along with 128 MB of SDRAM and it supports microSD memory card with up to 16-GB maximum memory storage. The main internal storage memory allows storage of unlimited phone numbers and handset also offers upto 30 days of dialed, received, and missed calls records.

The new Nokia C5 Smartphone also comes preloaded with Wave Secure software – a Symbian S60 release 5 OS unique security application which allows users to not only track their handset in case it is lost or stolen, but also allows wiping clean the data remotely from the device to prevent misuse, allowing remotely locking the device and track SIM card replacement in an event the device is stolen or lost. For data connectivity, Nokia C5 features GPRS Class 32 with upto 107 kbps speed connection, EDGE Class 32 with upto 296kbps speed connection, 3G HSDPA network connection with upto 3.6 Mbps data speed, 3G HSUPA @ 2 Mbps download, and wireless Bluetooth v2.0 connection with A2DP. There is no Wi-Fi connectivity option, perhaps to keep it budget-priced.

The wireless Bluetooth v2.0 connection with Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) feature offered by new Nokia C5 smartphone allows listening to music on bluetooth compatible headset absolutely wire-free and in full stereo.

The EDGE network connection functionality offered by Nokia C5 Smartphone handset allows ultra fast data transmissions of upto 296 kbps speed, and faster downloads and file transfers, while Bluetooth technology enables communication with other Bluetooth compatible devices and gadgets such as color printers, PDAs and laptops for instant sync-ups, data transfer and print jobs in a flash.

The Nokia C5 mobile phone also supports MMS (Multimedia Message Service) for Multimedia text messaging allowing sounds, pictures, animations and formatted text in SMS message and its integrated image blog features allows sharing photos instantly by directly posting them onto any blog site. The powerful and intuitive active toolbar interface provides a one-touch selection to effortlessly send photos via email, Bluetooth connectivity or MMS, print or upload them onto an Internet community.

Only 12.3 mm thick, the new Nokia C5 mobile phone is equipped with advanced 3.2 Megapixel digital camera having Carl Zeiss optics with maximum resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels and upto 4x digital zoom option. The digital camera also sports integrated flash ( 2 LED system) with automatic on/off feature, geo-tagging, face/smile detection and has autofocus feature. In addition, the camera also allows video recording in VGA resolution in 15 frames per second (fps). The captured video can also be edited on the mobile phone itself.

The Nokia C5 mobilephone also sports built-in GPS receiver with integrated Assisted Global Positioning System (A-GPS) that links to both satellites and local networks for navigation and it comes with pre-installed Nokia Maps v3.0 application and free downloadable maps of over 100 countries. The Nokia Map v3.0 software includes maps of 8 Indian cities with 52 categories of points of interest allowing users access places, travel destinations, bars/cafes/restaurants and hotel locations for local usage. The handset also offers a unique feature viz location tagger that allows users automatically tag location details with pictures (like date and time etc) along with the geographical coordinates data.
