HP today announced an education-focused HP Mini 100e netbook designed to help schools around the world acquire affordable, reliable computing technology to provide powerful learning tool.
The new HP Mini 100e Netbook features a modern, innovative design with the durability and functionality essential for classroom computing. Complete with an array of hardware and fully loaded with essential software tools, the HP Mini 100e Netbook aims to close the digital divide by offering students and teachers an interactive learning experience at an affordable price.
Built with added durability features for the classroom environment, the HP Mini 100e netbook includes a strong metal alloy hinges with steel pin axles. The Mini 100e also features a customizable back panel, keyboard deck and bottom case, allowing customers to personalize their units with their school logo, motto or a picture for added security and personalization.
The HP Mini 100e Education Edition Netbook PC features a practical clamshell design and weighs mere 1.45 Kgs and it features a 92% full-size keyboard and touchpad, delivering full-sized notebook familiarity and an integrated carrying handle that allow for maximized comfort and efficiency in the classroom and on the go.
HP Mini 100e Netbook features a spill-resistant keyboard helping to ensure greater protection against spills and higher reliability in the classroom as well as an easy-to-see LED that indicates when the PC is connected to a network, thereby enabling better instructor monitoring.
The HP Mini 100e boasts a wide array of technologies in a tiny package, including a low-power Intel Atom N455 processor and Intel NM10 Express chipset, enabling the unit to run cooler, use less power and help improve battery life compared to its predecessor. It includes 1-GBof DDR3 memory for faster data transfer, along with optional flexible battery solutions, including three or six-cell battery options.
Catering to varying education environments, the HP Mini 100e offers Windows XP Home, Windows 7 Starter or SuSE Linux (SLED 11) operating systems.
The new HP Mini 100e education edition Netbook for students also offers optional Wi-Fi Certified WLAN as well as an integrated worldwide modem that is compatible in all countries with the V.92 standard enabling dial-up internet connection in remote areas so students can easily connect to the web anywhere there is internet service available over a phone line.
The Mini 100e Netbook is equipped with 10.1-inch (256.5-mm) diagonal LED-backlit WSVGA display having 1024 x 600 resolution, makes viewing easy and comfortable. The Mini’s compact size and lightweight design make it easy to store in a backpack or carry using the convenient built-in handle.
The separate headphone and MIC ports allow students to easily connect other devices to enhance sound quality and reduce echo and with a VGA webcam that offers enhanced sound quality and reduced echo in virtual conferencing, language courses and interactive multimedia classroom sessions.

Other features of HP Mini 100e ultra-mobile netBook PC includes integrated 1.3 MP webcam, 2 USB v2.0 ports, Realtek ALC6628 Hi-Definition Audio 5.1 CODEC Hardware with build-in 2 stereo speaker system of 1.5 Watts each and also sports built-in Microphone.
The HP Mini 100e netbook comes with 3-cell, Li-Ion 5200 mAh 26WHr Battery which provides upto 2.5 hrs battery life and the Netbook is designed to be a eco-efficient consumer and business notebooks, and are fully compliant with the RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) directive. With an optional 6-cell battery, it allows upto 9.5 hours of power backup with single charge.

Pricing and availability
The Affordable HP Mini 100e Netbook for students will be available worldwide in July 2010. The pricing, according to HP, will be set on a per deal basis but is not expected to exceed $300 per unit.
