Nokia N900 Smartphone Powered by Linux Maemo 5 OS Announced in India

Nokia has announced its much-awaited Nokia N900 Smartphone that is its first Smartphone powered by Linux based Maemo 5 operating system and feature 3.5-inch resistive touchscreen display and slidable full QWERTY keyboard.


Nokia N900 Smartphone, also dubbed as Mobile Computer, is powered by a high-end OMAP 3430 ARM Cortex A8 600 MHz (based on a 65-nanometer CMOS process) with PowerVR SGX530 graphics running Nokia’s brand new Linux based Maemo operating system that provides the device comprehensive multitasking ability, and it features full 3-row backlit QWERTY slide-out keyboard.

The Maemo 5 operating system also gives the device an overall more touch-friendly interface than its predecessors and a customizable home screen which mixes application icons with shortcuts and widgets. A stylus is provided to allow more precise touch input and access to smaller user interface elements.

The new Nokia N900 Smartphone also offers multiple, personalizable home-screens which can be loaded with apps and built-in widgets. The new 2D and 3D graphics architecture in the platform takes full advantage of the Nokia N800’s hardware acceleration to deliver a faster and more responsive user interface.

The Nokia N900 handset is quad-band GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 Mhz network and tri-band 3G HSDPA 900 / 1700 /2100 MHz network ready and it includes 32 GB internal memory, 256MB RAM and 512-MB ROM besides sporting microSD card slot offering maximum 16-GB extended storage allowing practically unlimited entries phone book.

The Nokia N900 Smartphone is equipped with a large 3.5-inches 800×480 pixels resolution 65K colors capable AMOLED resistive touch screen with multi-touch input capability made from scratch resistant glass material and features Accelerometer sensor for auto rotate and Proximity sensor for auto system turn off.

The Nokia N900 is equipped with 5.0 Megapixels Autofocus camera with Carl Zeiss optics and a Xenon flash offering maximum of 2576 x 1936 pixels still image resolution. The camera is also capable of recording video recording in WVGA resolution of 848 x 480 pixels @ 25fps with built-in LED video light.

The Nokia N900 Smartphone also allows geo-tagging along with face detection and smile detection features and features a VGA resolution secondary camera for video calling.

Doubling as a portable entertainment center, Nokia N900 Smartphone allows people to enjoy HD like quality video with Dolby Digital Plus surround sound by plugging into their home theatre system.

Nokia N900 Smartphone offers exhaustive data connectivity options that includes GPRS class 32, EDGE class 32, 3G HSDPA 10.2 Mbps connectivity, 3G HSUPA 2.0 Mbps connectivity, WiFi 802.11b/g and Bluetooth v2.1 + A2DP for wireless connectivity in addition to microUSB v2.0 for wired connectivity.

3G capable Nokia N900 Smartphone also features FM radio with RDS and is equipped with FM transmitter for personal broadcasting and includes GPS receiver with A-GPS support offering Ovi Maps 3.0. In addition, the handset offers JAVA MIDP 2.1 support, Flash 9.4 support and includes document viewers for MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint and pdf files.

Nokia N900 also offers a whole lot of Social Networking features allowing users to update their status, share location and photos, and view live feeds from Facebook and Twitter via a single user interface available right on the home screen. In addition, the handset also includes free global Ovi Maps walk and drive navigation application guiding users to places and interesting locations across more than 70 countries worldwide.

Only 181 gms in weight and measuring 110.9 x 59.8 x 18 mm, the new Nokia N900 Smartphone also includes audio media player supporting MP3, WMA, WAV, eAAC+ files and video player supporting MP4, 3GP, and WMA files, and features HDMI and Composite video driven TV-Out port, 3.5 mm audio out port, Dolby Digital Plus via HDMI port, and Digital Compass.

Available in single black color the new Nokia N900 Smartphone comes with strong 1320 mAh Li-Po battery offering upto 6 hours of talk time on 2G network (4.3 hours on 3G) and 278 hours of stand-by time on 2G network and would be available in the later part of June for for Rs 30,639/-.
