DataWind Launches UbiSurfer Ultra-portable Mobile Internet NetBook With (Free) Mobile Internet Access

DataWind has launched in India UbiServer Mobile Internet Ultra-Portable NetBook that features a 7-inch display, integrated SIM card and mobile modem and comes bundled with 30 hours per month of free internet access across India for first year powered by Tata CDMA 1x network.

DataWind UbiSurfer offers DataWind’s revolutionary free-usage model wherein a user is offered 30 hours per month of free GPRS based internet access for the first full year that is useable across India. Users can also avail unlimited internet access that is available for only Rs 99 per month and each subsequent year of usage is only Rs.999. The internet access is powered by Tata Teleservices’ CDMA network with all India access.

The UbiSurfer ultra-portable mobile internet device comes with a WiFi browser for use at WiFi hot-spots, and DataWind’s UbiSurfer browser for mobile use anywhere where cellular phone signal is available. The UbiSurfer browser delivers an exceptional desktop web-experience, maintaining its original HTML layout, full graphics and complete functionality supporting Java, Javascript, Active-X controls, and Frames. With Microsoft Windows CE 6.0 real-time operating system, the new DataWind UbiSurfer boots-up in ten seconds and it provides familiar experience of Windows on a PC environment. Windows CE is a pre-emptive real-time operating system developed by Microsoft for minimalistic ultra-portable devices and embedded systems that have minimal storage and RAM that is supported on several processors including Intel x86 family, MIPS, ARM and Hitachi SuperH.

The UbiSurfer mobile internet access device is powered by ARM based processor (generally found in mobile phones) and it comes equipped with 7-inch WVGA 800 x 480 pixels resolution display and features only 128-MB internal RAM, 1-GB flash memory for storage and comes with 50-GB of online cloud storage option.

Weighing only 700 gms, the UbiSurfer measures 22.2 cm long, 16.5 cm wide and is only 2.92 cm thick and includes 80-keys keyboard and trackpad with two buttons.

The UbiSurfer comes equipped with WiFi 802.11b/g Wireless LAN and integrated SIM card slot with Embedded Cellular Model powered by Tata’s Photon CDMA 1x  network connection and includes 10BaseT Ethernet interface.
