HTC SMART Touch Phone Launched by Airtel in India

HTC and Airtel has officially released in India its eagerly awaited budget priced Smartphone, the HTC SMART Touch Phone, already dubbed as ‘Smartphone for masses’, that is estimated to be priced at Rs. 10,000 and offers all the exciting features one might expect in Smartphone with only exception of its lack of WiFi support.


Announced in January 2010, the HTC Smart phone is already available to Airtel customers in India and it features a brand new software platform that runs on Qualcomm Brew MP operating system, and has the latest version of the UI Sense user interface and is equipped with full touchscreen display allowing easy access to all the functions.

The Brew MP mobile operating system’s support for multiple programming languages enables the HTC SMART phone to boast the most sought-after Smartphone capabilities only available in high-end costly handsets. And because Brew MP is so flexible, it seamlessly integrates the HTC Sense user experience, allowing for maximum personalization, a simplified connection to social networks and rapid communication through text or email.

Strangely though, HTC Brew MP operating system, unlike Microsoft Mobile or Nokia Symbian does NOT support multi-tasking and there is no provision to install additional Apps from third party or even Brew MP. Only Java MIDP based third-party applications like Opera Mini etc can be installed.

Supporting 3G/HSDPA network connecivity, the HTC SMART is designed as an entry-level mobile device for users seeking all the social media, entertainment and other advanced features of high-end Smartphones, but at affordable price which appeals to masses.

HTC SMART phone is designed to be a low cost Smartphone aimed to masses and is HTC’s first phone powered by a brand new BREW MP mobile operating system and is equipped with Qualcomm processor with 300 MHz, and is quad-band GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 and 3G HSDPA 2100 network ready featuring a large 2.8-inch 240x 320 pixels 256K color TFT QVGA resolution Capacitive Touchscreen display, Accelerometer sensor and Sense UI interface.

The HTC Smart includes 256 MB internal RAM and 256 MB ROM memory and offers support for microSD card slot with 16-GB maximum expandable memory and allows 1000 entries phone book with photocall option.

The HTC Smart phone measures 104 x 55 x 12.8 mm ( 4.09 x 2.17 x 0.50 inches) in size and connectivity options includes, GPRS class 10 connection, EDGE class 10 236.8 kbps connection, 3G HSDPA 3.2 Mbps connectivity and is equipped with Bluetooth + A2DP wireless connection in addition to 11-pin miniUSB 2.0 port for wired connectivity.

Sadly, GPS with A-GPS and WiFi support is missing in this budget priced smartpone-for-masses but that is about only features users might really miss.

Weighing just 108 gms, the HTC Smart handset also comes equipped with 3.15 MB camera that offers 2048 x 1536 pixels still image resolution and features autofocus, LED flash, digital zoom and video recording capability.

In addition, the HTC Smart phone is also includes FM Radio with RDS, MP3 media player supporting .aac, .amr, .qcp, .mid, .m4a, .mp3, .wma, .wav format, video player supporting  formats .mp4, .3gp, .3g2, .m4v formats and has 3.5 mm stereo audio jack.

The HTC Smart touch phone offers full email client with push email support and it also keeps interactions right under the pictures of your contacts allowing a single view of all communications, be it email, text, or a Facebook update with any one of the users’ contacts. The handset also offers full HTML browsing and support for Twitter, Facebook and many more social networking sites.

The HTC SMART touch phone comes loaded with several widgets, and users can customize their phone using these and many more downloadable Widgets, to create single click access to to contacts, photos, music and weather.  The Smartphone also features HTC’s own Stream application that lets users check status of your contacts on across various social networking sites.

Available in only Black color, the HTC Smart touch phone  comes with 1100 mAh Li-ion battery that provides upto 450 hours of standby time on 2G (600 hrs on 3G) and extended 7.30 hours of talktime on 2G (6 hrs on 3G) with single full charge and is already available across India from Airtel (to Airtel customers only but NOT LOCKED to Airtel network) for an estimated price of few rupees under Rs. 10,000 with one year warranty.
