Vodafone Launches Vodafone 150 Monochrome and Vodafone 250 Color Ultra-low-cost Handsets

Vodafone has announced the launch of two new ultra-low-cost handsets, the Vodafone 150 monochrome and Vodafone 250 color mobiles phones, claimed to be world’s cheapest handset that offers exceptional voice and SMS quality.

Vodafone claims, these ultra-low-cost handsets are intended to give millions of people in emerging markets the opportunity to share in the benefits of mobile technology for the first time and and have a significant positive social impact.

Expected to be available to 60% of population in India, the new Vodafone 150 and Vodafone 250 both handsets delivers excellent voice and SMS services, and comes equipped with support for mobile payment services.

Both handsets share most specification features, while the main differences between them being that the Vodafone 250 incorporates a colour and slightly larger display, and it has an FM radio.

Dual-band GSM 900/1800 network ready Vodafone 150 handset sports a candy bar design available in Black color, equipped with a 5-way navigation key. The phone offers 100 entries phonebook and SMS storage and features 1.0-inch 96 x 64 pixels monochrome graphic display, SMS, polyphonic ringtones, vibration alert, and applications like alarm clock, calculator, currency converter.

The handset also comes with 2 embedded games, built-in torch, miniUSB port connection and comes equipped with 500mAh standard Li-ion rechargeable battery allowing upto 400 hrs of standby and upto 5 hours of talk time.

The Vodafone 250 is a dual-band GSM 900/1800 network ready handset that also sports a candy bar design available in Black color, is equipped with a 5-way navigation key. The phone offers 100 entries phonebook and SMS storage and features 1.45-inch 128 x 128 pixels color TFT CSTN display, SMS, polyphonic ringtones, vibration alert, stereo FM radio, and applications like alarm clock, calculator, currency converter.

The handset also comes with 2 embedded games, built-in torch, miniUSB port connection and comes equipped with 500mAh standard Li-ion rechargeable battery allowing upto 400 hrs of standby and upto 5 hours of talk time.

The Vodafone 150 will retail unsubsidised at below US $15 or about Rs. 700 and the Vodafone 250 will retail unsubsidised at below US $20, or about Rs. 900 depending on the local market and these handsets are expected to be launched in coming weeks in India and across Africa.
